The Presiding Officer at our island polling station told me that the turnout here is always remarkably good. When I was there it was a little flurry – six of us in a queue. What a choice of candidates on offer. Makes one realise how fortunate we are to have the democratic system we do – whatever one thinks of the various parties and issues in Europe.

Yes I agree, we are most fortunate to be able to 'have a say' even if the state of politics may be something other than good. The wee portacabin I entered this morning to mark the three different ballot sheets was empty but the monitoring officers said there had been a steady flow of people, I hope apathy doesn't win the most votes.
