The merlin has been very much in evidence over the last couple of days. It swoops low all round the house scattering the little birdsĀ from the feeders. Grrrrrrr…..
Still, I suppose it has fluffly babies to feed.

In our old house we had a Rowan tree in the back garden and one sunny afternoon I was sitting reading my paper at peace with the world when some bird of prey quite a small one swooped down and hit the tree.
I never knew a small tree could hold so many birds as there was an explosion of sparrows.starlings, blackbirds flew out this tree i must admit I got quite a fright.
Anyway some poor wee bird got caught and the “Hawk” or what ever it was flew away with his dinner, never seen anything like it.
Thanks for that graphic description, Graham. I imagine the paper nearly flew away as well. Needs must for nature though.
