Have just discovered that there is a dormant gold mine on the lower slopes of Ben Lui, not far from Tyndrum. Apparently, people still pan for gold in the River Cononish. The price of gold worldwide is currently too low to make the operation of the mine economic. It is said that one man managed to find enough gold in the river to have a wedding ring made for his wife.
Next time I go for a walk up there I must take the kitchen sieve.
