I have been reading a book based around the 1st World War. The Flowers of the Field, by Sarah Harrison. It has stirred almost faded memories of two maiden great-aunts – Daisy and Gertie. I can’t help wondering what their stories were. As a child of five or six I was far too young to understand what their lives may have been like. However, it has made me determined to do some research on that branch of the family; though I shall wait for darker nights and cooler days.
